Easy to Learn; Easy to Manage; and VERY Cost Effective!
These days there are many website templates available for those who don't know much about website design yet they have some time and wouldn't mind creating and managing their own site. These pre-made designs still offer great flexibility and you can learn to edit and manage the pages in no time - it's just like using Microsoft Word. Plus, these templates are already hosted on the web for you so you don't need to pay anything extra for hosting like with other design solutions - another savings! It's an economical solution for a small informational website and ideal for small nonprofit or business organizations. If you have some time to create and manage the website yourself this is probably the best option for you! Here are my recommended options:
1. WebSite Tonight - Great Templates From $6/Month
WebSite Tonight® is one of the best template-based hosted website creation and management tool. You won't get a fully customized website with high-end bells and whistles but you get an array of well-designed website templates and many add-on functions like photo and video gallery, sign up or feedback forms, or even a newsletter. Plenty to create and manage a good website! Click here to see WebSite Tonight details 2. Google SitesAs you know Google has all kinds of great free services and guess what? They happened to have a free website service as well! It's called Google Sites and you can easily create and manage a professional looking site in minutes. Google has been improving its features and they are quite impressive. Additionally more and more developers create add-on "gadgets" that can be included on your site. Check out this sample site I created in 2 minutes - basically just activated one of the templates: http://sites.google.com/a/headwing.net/abc-nonprofit/ Here's the offical overview of Google Sites: http://www.google.com/sites/overview.html And here's a video overview if you are a visual person: http://www.google.com/sites/help/intl/en/overview.html 3. Wix - Stunning Flash Websites for freeI discovered Wix in 2009 and I am quite impressed by it. It's a Flash-based website creator with easy drag-and-drop elements and with a focus on stunning visuals. The basic service is free and you can purchase an upgrade with extra features.  Warning: Don't buy some free html website templates on the Internet if you don't know how to work with basic html and don't know how to put it up on the web - your "free" template will end up costing you more money with customizing and making it live than an already hosted template you can manage easily like WebSite Tonight! And definitely don't buy a Flash template - it looks really great but you will either spend hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars making it work for you or you will just keep staring at it by yourself on your own computer... |
